New to fencing? Perfect.
In RIFAC's unique program for adult students, fencers progress through a syllabus carefully designed to introduce fencers to new techniques at the appropriate time.
Most students come to RIFAC with no prior fencing experience and enroll in Fencing for Beginners. Don't worry. Everybody in the class is starting at the same place.
At RIFAC each class is separated by skill level and you'll never be dropped into a class with students who are far more experienced than you are.
After completing Fencing for Beginners, students progress through three sections of Adult Foil where fencing techniques are introduced and practiced.
These foundation classes prepare students for the Adult Bouting Class and for open fencing at Club Nights.
Meeting on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, Club Nights are a chance to relax, mingle, have some fun and fence while meeting new opponents.
Many Club members also decide to try competition, as there are events for all ages and skill levels.
From your very first class, to as far as you'd like to take fencing, RIFAC has a path for you.
You say you don't know anything about fencing? By the end of a semester of Adult Beginner you'll be an expert.
Every student comes into Adult Beginner with no previous knowledge of fencing and goes home each week with more skill.
From history to etiquette, technique to form, the first semester class at RIFAC provides the basics.
You'll be the local authority on fencing, including basic footwork, offense and defense with the foil, refereeing and scorekeeping, electric fencing and the famous etiquette that has made fencing so distinct for centuries.
You'll also be ready to tackle Adult Foil, the next class in your fencing education.
For students age 14 and older.
Adult FoilOnce you've completed Adult Beginner and you've been bitten by the fencing bug, the next step is Adult Foil.
In this class, you'll continue your fencing education with three semesters of advanced material designed to turn you into the fencer you want to be.
Join us for the challenges of more advanced techniques, new tactics and strategies, plus an ever-expanding knowledge of the game you love.
For students age 14 and older.
Following the completion of all three sections, many students re-enroll to ensure sufficient technical proficiency in the complex fencing actions studied, join the Club, or enroll in Adult Bouting, Adult Épée, or Adult Saber.
The RIFAC staff provides plenty of guidance about which option is best for you.
